A new church can feel like a family gathering you weren't invited to or a party you're crashing. "They all know each other. We won't know anyone. It'll feel weird." We get it. We know even thinking about attending a new church for the first time, let alone actually showing up, can be really intimidating so we hope the information here gives you a helpful preview to make taking that step feel a little safer.
What should I wear?
We have a pretty casual culture. If you’d wear it to dinner or the movies or a sporting event, you can wear it here. But if you’re someone who likes to get a little dressed up for church, we also have some people who feel the same way.
Is there childcare?
We have programming for children birth through 8th-grade during each of our services. We invite families to attend the beginning of our worship service together and we dismiss kids to their respective classrooms about fifteen minutes after the service begins. Your children are always welcome to remain with you for the entire service, but if you would like them to participate in our kid programming, before service begins we’ll guide you through a simple process to get them registered in our system. Where are the bathrooms?
Our lobby restrooms are to your immediate left when you enter the main doors. We have restrooms for men and women as well as a family style restroom.
Do you take communion?
We participate in communion each week and we invite all guests to join us. Don’t worry, we give very clear instructions during each service so you’ll know exactly how to participate should you choose to. We also have a gluten free option.
What is the music like?
We have a contemporary form of worship music. It’s not a loud rock concert but neither is it a pipe organ. Click here for a sample.
Is there coffee?
There is! We have coffee, tea, water, and lemonade at a self-serve café. You are also more than welcome to bring your own.
What is the service like?
This is where the description goes.We begin each service with a “call to worship,” followed by 15 or so minutes of singing. At that point we invite everyone to greet those around them and we dismiss kids to their classrooms. After a brief set of announcements, someone will read a selected passage from the Bible which is followed by a sermon. We end each service with the practice of taking communion while we sing a final song. Services last about an hour. See our YouTube channel for our sermon videos.
Will I be pressured to give money?
No. We spend a few minutes each service acknowledging that the practice of giving is just as important for our spiritual formation as praying, singing, or listening to a sermon, we thank God for the gifts given by those who consider WCC their home church, and we provide information on how to donate if you wish to do so.
Will I be awkwardly identified as a new person during the service?
No. We wouldn’t want to be if we showed up to a new place for the first time, so we wouldn’t do that to you.
If I need help, who do I ask?
You will find a few people in our lobby wearing lanyards. They are there to help you with anything you might need. Don’t hesitate to approach them.
